Welcome to the memorial page for

Cora Pattie Taylor

Cora Pattie Taylor, 100, died peacefully Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at her home in Whitesburg.  She was born in Denver, Colorado, graduated from Denver North High School in 1934, and graduated from Colorado State College in 1938; she joined the American Red Cross at the beginning of World War II and was stationed in Natal, Brazil where she met the love of her life, the late Samuel Kyle Taylor, Jr.  They were happily married for 65 years.  They settled in Whitesburg and made a living through farming and education. She worked as a librarian at Miller Boyd School after raising her children; she also worked as a librarian at Manley Elementary and retired from John Hay Elementary after 26 years of service to education.  She was a longtime member of Creech’s Chapel United Methodist Church and played the piano.  She was on the Tennessee PTA board; the Morristown Hamblen Library Board; she belonged to the GFWC Ladies Reading circle, and was a 75-year member of the PEO Sisterhood. She was very active in the Hamblen County Farm Bureau Women and the Elizabeth Circle of First United Methodist Church.

In addition to the love of her life, SK, “Sam”, she was also preceded in death by her parents, Wiley and Cora Menefee and sister Mary Virginia Evans.

Pattie had a very strong faith and expressed that through her belief “that if you don’t have something good to say about someone don’t say anything at all”.

Survivors include; daughter, Susan Bryant; Sammie (Alice) Kyle Taylor III; Scottie (Joan) Taylor; Andy (Karla) Taylor; grandchildren, Chris, Sammy IV, Patrick, Sara, Bryan West, Zachary and Pattie Ruth; step-grandchildren, Josh Noe and Adam Wilson; seven great-grandchildren and 4 step-great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shady Grove Baptist Church Food Ministry or the Morristown Hamblen Library.

Special thanks to her three primary caregivers, Dreama McPeak, Michele Greene and Leslie Wimberley who made it possible for Pattie to remain at home.
