John Henry ("Pap") Britt

John H. Britt, ”Pap”, 82 of Whitesburg, passed away at his home Thursday, February 8, 2018 . He was of the Baptist faith and a Veteran of the United States Army.     He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Britt; daughter, Judy Britt; sisters, Madeline Hall and Shelby Ridley.

John worked as a foreman with Joe Wayman Paving Company for 35 years and retired in 1988.  John was self-employed for another 20 years doing excavation work around the area; all the while, farming the land and taking care of his cattle he loved so dearly.  He loved raising cattle and playing jokes.

He is survived by his sons, Terry Britt, Jerry Britt and Mark Britt; daughters, Kim (Danny) Stiles and Karen (Danny) Cobb; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a sister Jean Masengill.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 Sunday, February 11, 2018 in the East Chapel of Allen Funeral Home prior to the funeral service at 3:00 with George McCoy and Tony Collins presiding.  Military honors and interment will follow in Historic Bethesda Cemetery.
