Myra Nies Obituary

Myra Georgette Weiher Nies, 96, of Morristown, TN and Cincinnati, OH peacefully passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, with her family by her side.  Myra graduated from Hughes High School in 1946 in Cincinnati. She then moved to Morristown in 1965 with her husband and children for his work at the Tennessee Furniture Company. She resided in Morristown to raise her family after her husband passed in 1970 at the young age of 43.

She is preceded in death by her parents, George Weiher and Myrtle Weiher Brassie; stepfather, Lawrence Brassie; husband, Donald Nies; brother, Russell Weiher; sister, Marilyn Mahaney; and sister-in-law, Marlene Nies Humbert (Larry).

She is survived by her, children, Mike Nies (Rebecca), Scott Nies, and Tammy Nies Massey; grandchildren, Austin Nies (Hailey), Hunter Nies, Shay Massey, Tanner Massey and Tucker Massey; brother, Lawrence Brassie; and many nieces and nephews.

Myra retired at the age of 84 from JC Penney after many years of service along with working at Walters State Book store, Citizens Tribune and Millers Dept. store.  She was known as the lamb lady at Morristown Mountain Makins for making many of her handmade stuffed lambs for individuals across the US.  She was a very positive loving mother that supported her three children and five grandsons in everything they did. Myra loved going to every ballgame for her sons and grandsons, also known as the cow bell ringing lady at her son’s ballgames when they played basketball.   She was a hard-working woman that had a radiant and bubbly, witty personality enjoying square dancing, water aerobics, Taiichi, karate, skating, skiing and traveling with the Seniors and walking her dogs.  Myra was selflessly devoted to her children and grandsons and loved them with all her heart.  She also loved her neighbors, many of 60 years, that became very good friends that she treasured.

Thank you to our friends Alice, Amanda, Randy, Melinda, James, and Ashley, along with Smoky Mountain Hospice for their love and support including our friends and loving support of neighbors.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:30 pm Monday, April 29, 2024, in the sanctuary at First United Methodist Church prior to the service at 1:30 with Reverends Walter Weikel and Theresa McClure officiating.  Interment will follow in Hamblen Memory Gardens, Morristown, TN.
