Donald Phillip Huff, 91, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019 at his home in Morristown. He was born and raised in Tennessee, but travelled the world as a Merchant Marine, where he served on several vessels of the US Maritime Service until being drafted into the Army during the Korean War.
After serving, Donald returned to settle in East Tennessee where he started his family. He soon began a career with Tennessee Valley Authority, becoming a Shift Engineer and later assuming the position of Assistant Operations Supervisor at John Sevier Power Plant.
Donald enjoyed boating, dancing, bowling, a good joke, and a good beer. He was as sharp as a tack until the end, successfully completing every daily newspaper crossword puzzle. Also, in his mid-70s, Donald taught himself to build and repair computers. He was especially happy that he was able to repair computers for those who could not otherwise afford to have them fixed.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Lois Jean Cunningham; his parents, Arthur Pierce and Cora Keylon Huff; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
He is survived by his children, Ronnie (Polly) Huff, Greg (Hisae) Huff, and Karen (Larry) Penney; grandchildren Aimee, Cora, Phillip, and Raine; great grandchildren Allyson, Amelia, Thayer, and Sterling.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Donald’s neighbors and friends who helped him in his final years. Your support was invaluable and greatly appreciated.
The family will receive friends from 5-7pm, Tuesday, February 26, 2019 in the East Chapel of Allen Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7pm. Military Honors and Committal will be 11am, Wednesday, February 27, in Hamblen Memory Gardens.
Allen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
