Elizabeth Russell Obituary

Elizabeth Russell “Liz”, of Morristown, passed away Monday, April 2, 2018 at Life Care Center of Morristown.  She was born April 24, 1934 in Hamblen county, to Jesse Crayton and Ola Trent Russell, who preceded her in death.  She was the first grandchild of Robert A. and America Elizabeth Odom Trent and Tom and Mattie Cutshall Russell.

She was a charter member of Buffalo Trail Baptist Church; a graduate of Morristown High School and the University of Tennessee. She earned the private pilot’s license under the training of the late Evelyn B. Johnson.  Elizabeth retired from Berkline Corporation after thirty-six years of service and was a member of the adjunct faculty of Walters State Community College for over ten years; working at the Morristown, Greeneville and Sevierville campuses.  She volunteered with the Morristown Animal Shelter and was a LIFE member of the Morristown-Hamblen Hospital volunteers.

An admirer of the Boston Terrier dog breed; she supported and assisted area Boston rescues and over the years took several needy Boston rescues, and over the years, took several needy Bostons into her own home.  Three of these rescues – Abby, Maybelle and Teyve – earned the AKC “Canine Good Citizen” title and TDI’s “THERAPY DOG” certification.  Elizabeth and her Bostons visited Morristown- Hamblen Hospital, nursing homes, rehab centers, senior retirement and assisted living facilities in Hamblen, Jefferson, Hawkins and Washington Counties.

Survivors include her brother, Robert T. (Georganna) Russell of Morristown; nephews, Robert A Russell (Tracy Alice Berry) and their children Kieran, Lucinda and Oswyn; Andrew N. (Andrea) Russell and their daughter Elise, all of Johnson City; and several cousins in the area.

Anyone wishing to make a memorial may do so to Terrier Rescue of East Tennessee (BRET on line), Morristown-Hamblen Humane Society or the organizations of one’s choice.
