Ellis James “Jackie” Griffith, 62, of Morristown, went to be with the Lord Friday, April 26, 2019, at Holston Valley Medical Center. He was born Sept. 9, 1956, to the late Melvin and Arlene Slone Griffith in Floyd Co., Kentucky. Jackie was saved at age 7 in Middle Creek, KY, and was a deacon of Free Spirit Missionary Baptist Church in Morristown. He also served as the Sunday School superintendent and adult Sunday School teacher. Jackie loved his family and God, and was a friend to everyone who met him.
In addition to his parents, Jackie is also preceded in death by siblings Melvin Jr., Adrain, David, Caroline, Zella, and Elize.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Jessie Combs Griffith; children Ellis, Alvin, and Jason (Lindsey) Griffith, all of Morristown; grandchildren Austin, Kirsten, Jessika, and Sophia; siblings Ronald (Elizabeth) Griffith and Barbara (David) Ferrell of Morristown, Linda (Paul) Wireman of Ohio, Elmer Slone of Indiana, and Marietta Thornsberry of Kentucky.
The family will have a celebration of Jackie’s life 5 pm Wednesday, May 1, at Free Spirit Missionary Baptist Church, located at 723 Cedar Creek Rd. Russellville 37860. Reverend J.J. Harris will officiate the service.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested donations be made to his wife for expenses.
