Herbert Eugene Townsend of Morristown, formerly of Dayton, OH, passed away at Life Care Center on Friday, April 20 2018 after a lengthy illness. He served on the Arnold J. Isabell Navy ship during the Korean war. Herb was a 32nddegree Mason of the Mystic Lodge no. 405 F & AM; just recently receiving his 60year pen. He was a member of the Shriners, a Kentucky Colonial and American Legion. He was employed as a sales manager for Dayton Blueprinting selling engineering supplies. When he came to Morristown, he owned and operated a small restaurant, Cora’s Corner and was a volunteer at Davy Crockett Museum for several years. Herb recently gave his life to the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his mother Ellen Stone Townsend and grandmother Faye Thompson; and the mother of his daughters, Phyllis Gross Townsend and step-son, Robert “Robby” Wayne Long.
He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Shirley Talley Townsend; daughters, Cheryl (Dennis) Burton, Karen (Robyn) Wing of Dayton, OH, and Susan Long (Chris) Rickett and his only grandchild, Samantha (Sammie) Rickett. He is also survived by his brother and sisters-in-law, Wayne (Nancy) Talley of Massachusetts and Jerry (Jackie) Gross of Dayton, OH; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 Monday, April 23, 2018 in the East Chapel of Allen Funeral Home prior to the service at 7:00 with Reverend Mike Cutshaw of Trinity United Methodist Church and Reverend Ivan Cook presiding. The Virgil Webb singers will provide the music.
