James Walter “J.W.” Long, passed away July 30, 2018 at Anmed Hospital in Anderson, SC. He was born February 18, 1934 in Russellville, Tn. and was the son of Hugh and Rebecca Long of Russellville, Tn.
He started work at a young age. He began his journey in Morristown, Tn. He later married Peggy Suella Peerman June 23, 1963. They moved to Virginia for a short time, while he worked for Byrd Furniture. They later began their move to Greeneville, SC. They started their own business there, “Long’s Custom Built Furniture”, which later became “Kel-Cra Upholstery”. They were in the upholstery business for 30+ years.
J.W. was preceded in death by his parents; brother Hubert Guy Long; his wife Peggy Long; brother-in-law Ray Resendez, 2 daughters Becky Nicely and Tina Hawkins; son-in-law John Sheppard.
He leaves behind a son, Walter Craig (Julie) Long; 3 daughters, Kelly Elizabeth Sheppard, Cheryl Delaine Wilson and Rhonda Shipe; 2 sisters, Janie (Bill) Hope and Ina Dee (Ray) Resendez; 2 brothers, Darryl (Debbie) Long and Hal (Peggy) Long. Also surviving is Tracy (Cathy) Stephens who was like a son to him. He has 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. J.W. lived a wonderful life and always tried to see the best in everything.
J.W.’s body will lie in state from 12:00 – 5:00, p.m. Sunday, August 5, 2018 in the West Chapel of Allen Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 6, 2018 in Historic Bethesda Cemetery.
