Pierce Carpenter Obituary

On January 28th, 2019, Pierce Carpenter, Jr. finished his journey in this world and completed his legacy surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home.  Pierce cherished his family and his beloved dog “Buddy”.

On March 5th, 1941, Pierce was born to Rena Young and Pierce Carpenter, Sr. in Morristown, Tennessee.  As a young man, he was raised with the understanding that hard-work mixed with a lot of love was required to provide for your family.  He worked for and retired from United Parcel Service, where he enjoyed his work and meeting new people for 30 years. He spent most of his career working in the Hawkins County area.  He enjoyed collecting antiques, where his true passion was refurbishing antique furniture.  Through his work and hobby, he made many friendships throughout the years that lasted his lifetime.  His work shaped his character, but it was his family that defined him.  An avid Tennessee Vol fan through the good times and bad, it was more than ironic that the day his journey ended, the Tennessee Men’s Basketball team was ranked #1.

In 1960, Pierce met the love of his life Frances “Frankie” Hatfield.  They married on June 30th, 1962 in Morristown, Tennessee.  Pierce and Frankie were blessed with two children, Tim and Jason.  Pierce and Frankie raised their boys in Morristown, Tennessee.  He was always so proud of his wife and the accomplishments of his boys.  Pierce and Frankie worshiped together with their church family at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Morristown, TN.  Pierce was a follower of Christ and in his final days, expressed joy in the day he would head home to meet his Creator and Savior.

Pierce is survived by his wife of 56 years, Frankie, son Tim (Betsy) Carpenter and their children Kyle and Alexis of Sterrett, AL, son Jason (Ginger) Carpenter and their son Reagan of Harpersville, AL, two sisters Dolly Kurtz of Camden, Ohio and Charlotte Sebastian of Morristown, Tennessee, along with numerous nieces and nephews.  Pierce adored and loved Frankie’s family.

Pierce was preceded in death by his parents Rena and Pierce Carpenter, Sr, his brothers Jimmy, Aldon, Clyde, Stokely, John, Nealous and his sister Laura Miley.

A Memorial Service for Pierce will be held Saturday, February 2ndat Hillcrest Baptist Church in Morristown, with Pastor David Williams officiating.  The receiving of friends will be from 2:00 – 4:00 immediately followed by the memorial service.  A private graveside service will be held in Hamblen Memory Gardens.

The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to AllCare of Morristown and Covenant Hospice for their outstanding care of Pierce.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent to the Hillcrest Food Bank to help support and feed those in need.  Please send donations to Hillcrest Baptist Church; Attention:  Food Bank. Hillcrest Baptist Church, 410 S. Liberty Hill Road, Morristown, Tn 37813.
