Scott Leslie Skelton

God mercifully took Scott to be with Him after a short and painful battle with incurable pancreatic cancer.  He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife, Rene’ Harville Skelton, Knoxville, TN, his daughter, Lauren Schulz (boyfriend Bob), Wilmington, NC, his parents, Janie and Alan Skelton, Hendersonville, NC, and his brother Eric Skelton (fiancé Erica with daughter Caroline), Charlotte, NC. Scott held a special place in his heart for his twin nephew and niece, Anderson and Caroline, Eric’s children. 

Scott achieved a BA degree from Gallaudet University, a Master’s degree from the University of Tennessee in Sports Adm and a Master’s degree in Deaf Education from Western Maryland.  

For the last 3 years, Scott was the Director of Student Life at the Tennessee School for the Deaf, supervising over 80 employees and 150 children. Prior to that, he held a similar position at the North Carolina School for the Deaf in addition to serving as the Athletic Director there.  

Scott graduated from NCSD in 1988, having participated in the student government and all sports.  After returning there as an employee, his service and friendships expanded throughout the Deaf community.  His dedication to his students led to many long hours of extracurricular activity, which he enjoyed greatly.  That dedication continued at TSD. Scott started his education as a small child at the age of two at TSD, and he was excited about returning as a Director.

A wonderful additive to moving to Knoxville was being close to his Vols.  Much to his mother’s chagrin he proudly carried a UT emblem on his leg to demonstrate his BIG ORANGE dedication.  Scott’s other recreational love was playing and watching golf.  He was an officer in the NC Deaf Golf Association for many years and volunteered at the Wells Fargo Championship with Rene’ since its inception. 

A lasting gift that Scott gave to his friends was a keen and dry sense of humor.  Beware if you gave him an opening! 

The families’ wish for Scott is that he remains remembered for the caring, loving, patient and considerate man that he was.
