Bessie Tulen (Arnott) Lowery

Bessie Tulen Arnott Lowery, age 91, of Mohawk, entered into the Lord's rest Saturday, April 15, 2023, surrounded by family at home.

Bessie loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children. She enjoyed traveling and outdoor activities. Her adventurous nature resulted in her having a variety of occupations through the years, most recently as mail carrier in the Mohawk and McDonald communities. She was a long-time member of Sunrise Baptist Church in Bulls Gap and attended while her health permitted.

A daughter of the late Samuel and Maude (Turner) Arnott, she was married to the late Claude Harold Lowery for 49 years. 

She is survived by sister-in-law Kathy (Jackie) Shipley; nephews Joe (Darlene) Arnott, Ernest (Barbara) Cook, Garry (Mary) Barnard, Johnny (Tommye) Carter, Sammy (Wilma) Carter, Lynn (Rita) Carter, Roger Brown, Ronnie (Juanita) Brown, Bobby (Kasandra) Mathes, and Jessie (Kelle) Lowery; nieces Carolyn (Charlie) Fellers, Janice (Bill) Mills, Danita (Bill) Bailey, Donna (Charles) Ervin, Marsha (Jerry) Sexton, Michelle (Chris) Wilhoit, Melanie (Brad) Shultz, and Roxanne (Kevin) Knight; a host of great, great great, and great great great nieces and nephews; and several special friends and neighbors. 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her parents-in-law Ted and Lenna Dell Lowery, brother Minnis Arnott; sisters Earline Cook, Georgia Woodworth, Ruby Barnard, Delsia Carter, Ruth Brown, Jackie Cox, and Shirley Mathes; four infant siblings; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.  

Pallbearers will be Brad Shultz, Ladd Horner, Luke Wilhoit, Daniel Wilhoit, Chad Bailey, and Johnny Walker. 

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to all her caregivers and UT Hospice. 

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, from 4-7 pm at Allen Funeral Home in Morristown. The memorial service will follow at 7 pm with LeRoy Davis officiating. The graveside service will be held Thursday April 20, 11 am in Sunrise Baptist Church Cemetery in Bulls Gap. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery at 10 am.
