Betty Timberlake Obituary

Betty Bowe Timberlake, age 77, of Morristown, TN, passed away peacefully in the gentle care of Friends of Hospice at Serenity House, on Saturday, March 1, 2025.

Betty was born in Richmond, VA., on May 15, 1947. As a child and young adult, she resided in the generational home, Rutland House, built in 1790, in Hanover, Virginia. She graduated from Randolph Macon Women’s College in Virginia, with a Bachelor of Arts and Master’s Degree. She was a teacher of Special Education for several years but longed to travel the world. She decided to try exploring through the Road Scholar Education Travel Organization. She visited over 30 countries including Egypt, Turkey, Iran, France, England, and Scotland. She often kept detailed journals of her travels and collected albums full of beautiful post cards of the art of the different countries of the world.

Betty was interested in being part of the community of like-minded people. She decided to open the very first health food store in Hamblen County, TN., and called it Veggette’s Choice. For 20 years it was a lively, cheerful place to shop for vitamins, organic food, and literature devoted to healthy living. In the past, Betty and her life partner, William, built large geodesic domes for the U.S. and foreign customers.

Betty was preceded in death by her father, Donald Crenshaw Timberlake; her mother, Ethel Lee Cully Timberlake; and her brother, Donald Henry Timberlake.

Betty is survived by her life partner of 45 years, William “Bill” H. McGlamery; Bill’s daughter, Sally Hammerschlag; and her Virginia family and friends, Bob and Margaret Cully, Plunkett Family, Neal Parsons, and Branson and Linda Murrill.

Betty will also be forever missed by her closest friends in Tennessee, Robin Trinko, who was her personal assistant for many years, Mary Pankiewicz, Margaret Greene, and Tata Andres. Our dear friend is gone, but not forgotten, now pain free in the hands of our Lord.

We wish to thank Serenity House and Smokey Mountain Hospice for excellent care and compassion in Betty’s last days. Thank you so much, to so many, who touched her life and helped, and supported her through the difficult time of illness.

To carry out Betty’s final wishes, the family will inurn her ashes at the foot of the Timberlake family plot in Hollywood Cemetery of Richmond, VA.
