Carolyn “Carole” Carter, age 92, went to be with her beloved husband, Robert “Bob” Carter, in their Heavenly home on Saturday, October 11, 2025. Born in 1932 in Greene County, Ohio, Carole later made Tennessee her home alongside Bob, where together they raised their family and built a life rooted in faith, love, and community.
A devoted member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Carole’s faith guided her through every season of life. She was also a passionate supporter of the University of Tennessee Volunteers—a true “Vol for Life.” Whether cheering from the stands or from her favorite chair, Carole’s enthusiasm for her team never wavered.
Throughout her long and full life, Carole wore many hats—each with joy and pride. She was a buyer, baker, banker, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, a woman of many talents and endless energy. She loved to golf, bowl, shop, lunch with friends, and play cards, always finding joy in fellowship and laughter. Her warmth and wit made her a cherished friend to many and the heart of her family.
Carole was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Carter; son, Robert Keith Carter; parents, Harold and Pauline Rittenhouse; and three sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by her daughter, Kay (Mark) Hurley; sons, Tim (Lisa) Carter, Marc (Libba) Carter, and Scot (Stephanie) Carter; grandchildren, Caitlyn Hurley-Potter, Meghan Hurley, Matthew Hurley, Shana Combs, Ryan Carter, Logan Carter, Lindsay Presnell, Taylor Carter, Jackson Estep, Graham Estep, and Brooke Carter; great-grandchildren, Lucas Hurley, Chloe Slagle, Audrey Rypel, Noah Combs, Baylor Combs, Jenny Haas, Emerson Carter, and Lexie Montanus; great-great-grandson, Armani Combs; as well as several nieces and nephews who will remember her with love and admiration.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Allen Funeral Home, with funeral services to follow at 7:00 PM, officiated by Rev. Mike Cutshaw. Family and friends will gather for her interment at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Hamblen Memory Gardens with Rev. Doug Silvers officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice, in remembrance of Carole’s generous and caring spirit.
