His parents precede him in death.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, Mr. Carpenter was born in Hamblen County, a son of Dallas and Stella (Payne) Carpenter.  He married Elaine in 1963.

He later retired from Shelby Williams after more than 37 years of service.  During his tenure at Shelby Williams, he served as chaplain of the Shelby Williams local union along with coaching the first Shelby Williams softball team.

Mr. Carpenter was a lifelong member of Russellville Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for over 53 years, was Sunday School Clerk, and participated on various church committees.  In his earlier years, he also played on the church’s first softball team.  He was a founding member of East Hamblen County Volunteer Fire Department.

He was a Past Master of Kyle Lodge #422 and was most recently serving as Chaplain; was a 32 Degree KCCH Scottish Rite Mason, and a Kerbela Shriner, where he loved driving children to the Shrine Hospitals and entertaining them as a Shrine Engineer on Elmo the Train.  Additionally, he was Past Patron of Whitesburg-Hamblen Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star and an Honorary Kentucky Colonel.

As an avid fan of the University of Tennessee Volunteer sports and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers professional football team, he relished talking all things sports related regarding his two favorite teams.  Mr. Carpenter enjoyed clogging and was a member of the Tennessee Foothill Cloggers where he performed for special events throughout the area.
