Geraldine “Gerry” Haskew Brittain, 92, passed away suddenly April 1, 2020 at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System in Morristown, TN. Gerry was born July 10, 1927 in Morristown, the only child of Joseph and Carolyn (Goodin) Haskew. Gerry graduated from Middlesboro (KY) High School where she met her husband-to-be William H. “Bill” Brittain. They married in May 1948 about a month before her graduation from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a degree in History.
She was a career educator and was among the first faculty at Morristown-Hamblen High School West where she taught for 20 years, retiring in 1988. She enjoyed spending time with her family and watching sports in person or on television.
Gerry is survived by her four children: Anne Sparkman, Kay (Garry) Kanipe, Bill (Gale) Brittain, Ted Brittain, eight grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Bill Brittain.
A private graveside service will be conducted at Jarnigan Cemetary. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First United Methodist Church, 101 E First North Street, Morristown, TN 37814.
