Herbert Harville Obituary

Herbert Hoover Harville was born November 2, 1928 and entered eternal life on April 27, 2020. Herbert graduated from Morristown High School in 1948. He then served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from February 1949 through August of 1952. He attended Carson-Newman College and graduated with a BS degree in Physics and Mathematics in 1957. He earned an MS in mathematics from the University of Tennessee in 1963 and had 45 additional hours in Administration and Supervision from East Tennessee State University. 

Herbert worked in the Hamblen County School System for 34 years as a teacher and coach, Supervisor of Instruction and as Superintendent for 18 years. He oversaw the merger of Morristown City Schools and Hamblen County Schools in 1985. After retiring from the school system in 1989, Herbert served on County Commission for 28 years serving as Chairman for six years, Chairman of the Education Committee for many years and was a member of the Hamblen County Planning Commission. 

Herbert was also active in the community serving on the Lakeway Achievement Center Board, the Morristown Hamblen Hospital Board of Trustees, the Morristown-Hamblen Day Care Board, the Youth Emergency Shelter board as a charter member, the A.L.P.S. Advisory Board, and the Lions Volunteer Blind Industries Board. He was also a member of the Morristown Hamblen County Lions Club, the American Legion - Billy Bushong Post and the Hamblen County Retired Teachers. 

Herbert was a long-time member of Bridger's United Methodist Church which later merged with Trinity United Methodist Church where he served in many different capacities. 

He was preceded in death by parents Clinton and Myrtle Shockley Harville, brothers Homer and R. L. and sisters Eva Moore, Mayme Bradley, and Katherine Baxley. 

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Bobbie Thomas Harville, daughter Janet and son Stan and his wife Teresa, granddaughters Kaitlyn and Courtney Harville, sister Edith Gilbert, brother-in-law Clarence (Brenda) Thomas and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Body will lie in state on Thursday, April 30, 2020 from 9AM to 5PM in the East Chapel of Allen Funeral Home.  A private graveside will be held in Hamblen Memory Gardens, with Reverend Mike Cutshaw and David Purkey officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church Building Fund; 425 Wilder Street; Morristown, Tn.  37813.
