Herbert Lee Whitson, 97, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, December14, 2025, at his home in Church Hill. Born on December 19, 1927, in Bristol, VA. Herbert lived a long and meaningful life rooted in faith, family, and community. A devoted Christian and longtime member of Higher Ground Baptist Church, Herbert’s life was guided by his unwavering belief and commitment to service. His presence within the church community was a source of strength and encouragement to those who worshipped alongside him.
He is preceded by his beloved wife, Betty Whitson; parents, Clarence and Carty Whitson; his siblings, Carolyn, Bobby, Helen, Janice, Clarence Jr., and Larry. Though their absence was deeply felt throughout his later years, Herbert carried their memories with grace and dignity.
He is lovingly remembered by his children, Robin Cooper, Rick Whitson, Patricia Wallace and Marcella Langrel. His legacy continues through his 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren—each a testament to the enduring love he shared with his family.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Marcella Langrel , Meagen and Angel Sellers, and to Ballad Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion they provided during Herbert’s last days. Without such wonderful care, Herbert would not have been able to remain in his home. Their dedication brought comfort not only to him but also to those who held him dear.
Herbert Lee Whitson’s life was one of quiet strength and steadfast devotion. May his memory bring peace to all who knew him.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 am Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Hamblen Memory Gardens, 5421 East Andrew Johnson Hwy.; Morristown, Tn. 37814.
