Ina Ruth “Cookie” Pratt, 77, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, November 29, 2021. She was a longtime member of Riverview Baptist Church. She taught in the first year of racial integration at West Elementary in 1966. After twenty years there, she taught at Whitesburg and Lincoln Elementary Schools and retired with twenty-eight years of service.
She was a patient and adoring wife and mother and was a loving, considerate, compassionate, and wonderful listener to all her family, friends, and acquaintances. Though she often remained quiet while she gave audience to others’ problems and concerns, she also helped solve them by being a dedicated prayer warrior. Cookie battled lupus throughout most of her life and was proud that, through God’s grace and her own determination, she was able to lead as close to “normal” a life as anyone.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over forty-nine years, Bob Pratt, and parents, Raymond and Louisa Long.
She is survived by her son, Rob (Eustacia) Pratt; sister, Patsy (Ron) Byrd; nephews, Josh and Jeremy Byrd and great-nephew, Jake.
Graveside services are planned for 2:00 pm Friday, December 3, 2021, at Heath Chapel Cemetery in Bean Station with Reverend Michael Turner officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to WSCC Foundation; Assistant Vice President of College Advancement, at Chris.Cates@ws.edu or 423-585-2618.
