James Hodge Obituary

A true gentleman, loving husband and father, great neighbor and friend to all, J.D. (James Daniel) Hodge went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 13, 2022.

J. D.’s parents were founding members of Bridgers United Methodist on Montvue Avenue, a mission satellite church of First Methodist Church Morristown.  The congregation later merged memberships with Trinity United Methodist Church.

J. D. Hodge was married to Peggy Landrum 65 wonderful years and raised Jim, Lee and Renee.

Morristown High School football and basketball player known as “Rosie”, he ran track and signed with the U.S. Army right after graduation.  To have been trained as a tail gunner for service in World War II, he stayed stateside, only because the war ended.  He lost his only brother, Clure, in the Mediterranean Sea (WWII) during a typhoon, the only other son to Dan and Mary Hodge of Grainger County.

He dedicated 40 years to Hale Brothers as a salesman and a sales manager for what is now known as Performance Food Groups (PFG).  His territory took in Gatlinburg and Corbin, Kentucky, where he knew “The” Colonel Sanders.  In retirement, he and Peggy enjoyed trips to Disney with grandkids and their families.

Preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Mary Hodge, brother Clure Hodge, beloved wife Peggy Landrum Hodge and daughter Renee Hodge Wigington, former wife of Joseph Shelburn Wigington III.
