SSgt. Jerry Lawrence Wilson, retired US Airforce, passed away Monday, May 2, 2022 at his home in Morristown. He was born in Kennett, Missouri on January 11, 1937. He was preceded in death by his father Jimmie Wilson; mother, Sarah Webb Trombat; and daughter, Deborah Sue.
He came to Tennessee when he was 5 years old and attended Whitesburg Schools. At the age of 17, he joined the USAF where he served for 20 years active duty. Areas he served include: Texas, Colorado, South Carolina, Germany, Oregon, Greenland, Philippines, Korea, California, Thailand and Michigan. He retired in 1974 to return to Morristown, TN. He married Relda Price on December 23,1956 at Bulls Gap Baptist Church. They had three daughters.
He is survived by his wife, Relda Wilson; daughters, Donna Layel and Barbara Wilson; half-brother, Jimmy Wilson of Mississippi. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Neil (Jessica) Young; Daniel (Kirby) Young, Justin (Traci)Young, Heather (Justin) Self, Nathan (Ashley)Layel and Tabatha Helton; great-grandchildren, Gavin and Leahla Helton, Riley, Cale, and Dylynn Young; Peyton, Camden Young and Karli Edison; Ava Grace, Emma Sue, and Bella Rae Young; Isaiah, Layelee and Luke Self; Meleah & unborn baby girl Layel.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 pm Thursday, May 5, 2022 at Morningside Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 with Rev. Ross Woody and Dr. Kenneth Boling officiating. Military Honors and graveside service will be 11:00 am Friday, May 6, 2022 in Hamblen Memory Gardens.
