Joan C. Southern

Joan C. Southern, 74, went to be with the Lord on Sunday March 2, 2025. She was a charter member of Highland Baptist Church. She also served as the children’s church leader at First Baptist Church, Whitesburg and Highland Baptist Church for over 50 years. Children’s ministry was very important to Joan, especially Vacation Bible School and the bus ministry. Joan served the community in many different ways, including helping to start the Pregnancy Crisis Center in Morristown. She loved people and will be missed from those that she helped and encouraged throughout the years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Marie Davis and sister, Brenda Ricker.

Joan is survived by her husband of 57 years, William “Bill” Southern; daughter, Rhonda (Todd) Haley; granddaughter, Anna Haley; brother, Tom (Laura) Davis; sister, Donna Eddington; Debbie Wolfe; several nieces and nephews; as well as many dear church family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Highland Baptist Church Children’s Ministry.

The family will receive friends from 11 AM – 1 PM, Thursday, March 6, 2025, in the East Chapel of Allen Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 1 PM, with Rev. Terry Bunch and Pastor Todd Haley officiating. Graveside services will follow the funeral service in Bent Creek Cemetery.
