Joe Michael “Mike” Dougherty, 73, of Russellville, loving husband and father, was called home unexpectedly on October 7, 2019. He was born September 7, 1946 in Morristown, son of, the late, Joe T. and Alice O. Dougherty of Russellville. He graduated from Whitesburg High School in 1964. He enlisted in the service in 1966 and served in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne, in Vietnam. He married the love of his life, Patricia Horton, in 1971, and they moved to Russellville. He retired from TVA’s John Sevier Steam Plant in Rogersville, after 25 years of service. He was a member of Russellville Baptist Church and a charter member of the East Hamblen County Volunteer Fire Department. Mike was a proud 30-year member and past Master Mason of Kyle Lodge #422 F&A.M in Whitesburg. He enjoyed traveling to different Masonic Lodges across the area and helping confer various degrees. Mike was also a member of the Kerbela Shrine Club and other organizations. He dearly enjoyed driving the Shriners van, transporting children to Lexington, KY, Cincinnati, OH, and Greeneville, SC.
In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by his sister, Marie and brother, Bill Dougherty; in-laws, Roscoe E and Opaline Horton; grandson, Bryan Dougherty; and Step-grandson, Bryan Dotson II.
He is survived by his loving wife, of over 48 years, Pat Dougherty; sons, Stephen and Patrick (Corie) Dougherty; and daughter, Amy (Bryan) Dotson; grandchildren, Alan, Casey (Mark) Pollard, and Richard Dougherty; step-grandchildren, Chasity (Todd) Roberts Jr. and Malachi Dotson. Mike is also survived by sister, Beth Fletcher and her two sons, Chris and Josh (Katie) Fletcher; sister-in-law, Teresa Dougherty and her daughter and son, Casey and Will (Tasha) Dougherty. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Jim (Donna) Horton and sister-in-law, Carolyn (Charlie) Vaughn and their daughters, Barbara (Oley) Grubb and Amanda (Tommy) Alexander. Along with, a host of great nieces and nephews, with special niece and nephew Jason and Allison Fletcher; family friend, Jessica Worley and children, Cory, Roy and Jocelyn. He had many lifelong friends, including Larry Baker and Herb Dale and Esco Jarnagin.
The family will receive friends 6-8 PM, Thursday, October 10, 2019 in the East Chapel of Allen Funeral Home, with Masonic Funeral Rites to follow at 8 PM. The family will also receive friends 6-8 PM, Friday, October 11, 2019, in the East Chapel of Allen Funeral Home, funeral services will follow at 8 PM, with Reverend George McCoy officiating. Interment and Military Funeral Honors will be held at 2:30 PM Saturday, October 12, 2019 in the Veterans section of Hamblen Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
