Joe Max Smith, 83, of Morristown, ran into the arms of Jesus at his home. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church. He retired from BASF/American Enka and also retired from bus driving for the Hamblen County School System. Joe was a gifted wood worker and a master chair caner and basket weaver. He was a very generous person who loved to serve others. Joe loved the Lord and family with all his heart.
Preceded in death by parents, Joe G. Smith; Juanita Smith Stephens; stepfather, John Stephens; brother, Kenneth Ray Smith; sisters, Ola Ruth Wagner and Josephine Willis.
Survivors include his wife, Suzanne Herrell Smith; children, Lisa Wallen, Ricky Smith, Robert Smith, Vanessa McGill, Jimmy Davis, and John Davis; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Lois Clemmons; niece, Laura Lea Patterson and great niece, Emmalee Patterson.
The family would especially like to thank Richard Lawson, who was their angel who loved Joe with all his heart and, also to his loving and caring nurse, Ty Webber with U.T. Hospice.

Graveside services are planned for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2023, in Emma Jarnagin Cemetery with Reverend James Williams officiating.
