John Russell Lipe, Sr., 86, of Morristown, Tennessee passed away on December 16, 2023. He was born in Asheville, NC and was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Lillie Lipe; two sisters, Kathryn Edmonds and Vonda Coli, and his first wife, Marie Lipe.
He spent several years in the Navy right after graduating from Enka High School. Then he worked for the American Enka Corporation for many years, followed by Allan Construction and then drove a truck until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his wife Opal, family, and beloved dog Rocky! His hobbies were gardening (his canned green beans were legendary), time at his camper on Lake Cherokee, fishing, watching westerns and watching sports- especially his Tennessee Vols!
He is survived by his wife, Opal; children, Donna Moore (James) and son John Russell Lipe, Jr (Pamela); 4 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; stepdaughters, Rose Hollingquest (Jack), Shawnee Driskill (Wayne), Lillian Reed-Webb (William), Kitty Benson (Greg), Opal Adkins (Steve); 20 step-grandchildren, and 39 step-grandchildren. PaPa John will be greatly missed by all his family.
He professed faith in Jesus Christ and now resides in heaven with a brand-new body!
The family will hold a celebration of life service at 11am, Saturday, January 13, 2024, in the East Chapel of Allen Funeral Home. They will receive friends until 1pm, after the service.
