Lemuel (Porter) R. Harris, a resident of Whitesburg for 38 years passed away at his home on Friday, December 25, 2020 at the age of 66. He was a 10yr survivor of three major cancers. He passed peacefully with his heart stopping Friday afternoon.
He was an active member, Music Director, assistant Sunday School teacher and member of the Prayer group at Catherine Nenney Memorial Baptist Church. He was an E5 in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam war. He also served in the TN National Guard. He was a “shade tree” mechanic and enjoyed working on tractors and old cars. He also liked dirt track racing, tractor pulls and he loved his family; all of God’s four legged creatures; especially horses and dogs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Irene Teague Harris; brother, Father Maurice Brennan; grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Shirley Harris; daughter, Crystal Harris and grandson, Danny Wilder III; brothers and sisters, David (Cheryl) Harris of Franklin, LA; Margie (Walt) Way; Anthony (Ethel) Harris; Carolyn (Mickey) Clowers; Mike (Jennifer) Harris; Lois (Robin) Horner; Phyllis (Jim) Smith; three aunts, one uncle and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services are planned for 1:00 pm Wednesday, December 30, 2020 in Hamblen Memory Gardens with Reverends James Ramsey and Fred Diamond officiating.
To follow government guidelines regarding COVID19, facial coverings are required, and social distancing is expected for those who wish to pay their respects.
