Margaret (Fort) Slabbekorn

Margaret Fort Slabbekorn, 104, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2024, after a brief illness, at the home of her daughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Bessie Fort; sister, Helen Braswell; husband, Benjamin Slabbekorn; and son, Benjamin “Benny” Slabbekorn.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Margaret (David) Helton of Walland, TN; daughter-in-law, Cassie Slabbekorn of Talbott, TN; grandchildren, Rebekah (Caleb) Gaston of Columbia, SC, Clinton (Jenica) Helton of Maryville, TN, Tami Price of Staatsburg, NY; and great-grandchildren, Emma Kate Gaston, Audrey Gaston, and Mirabeau Helton.

Margaret was the oldest member of the First Baptist Church of Morristown. She was saved at the age of 10 in VBS and has been a member for 94 years. Friends and family members would often ask what she contributed her long life too, and her answer, always in this order, was my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, my family, and my wonderful friends. Her warm smile, generous spirit, and strong faith touched the lives of all that knew her. She was a member of the Ladies Reading Circle for 60 years and served on various committees. A special thank you to Rebecca Bowlin and her family, Kayla and Lily, for their love and support with daily well check visits.

Graveside services will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, September 1, 2024, in Jarnagin Cemetery, with Rev. Danny Georges officiating.
