Mary Alice Harville, age 88, loving wife, amazing mother, grandmother and great grandmother, devout Christian and lifelong member of First Baptist Church Morristown went peacefully to her heavenly home on February 27, 2025.
Mary Alice was born on September 12, 1936, at the homeplace in Whitesburg, Tennessee to Fred and Ruth (Evans) Moore. She spent most of her childhood in Appalachia, Virginia and shared fond memories of visiting family and traveling between Appalachia and Whitesburg. She moved to Morristown at the start of high school and in 1955 married her high school sweetheart Bill Harville. After Bill joined the military they moved on base at White Sands Missile Range in White Sands, New Mexico where he was assigned to the Army Security Agency and Mary Alice worked in various administrative roles within the Security Agency as well.
Following Bill’s service in the military they returned to Morristown and began their family. Mary Alice enjoyed a career in education and banking, serving on numerous boards and with volunteer organizations including the Morristown Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Boys & Girl’s Club, Girl’s Inc., Rose Center, United Way and the Downtown Morristown Association.
Through love of antiques and a strong interest in historic preservation, upon retirement Mary Alice and Bill opened The Nest Antiques & Gifts, first renovating the circa 1900 building located in Historic Downtown Morristown and then managing and running the store until health issues associated with Parkinson’s forced her to officially retire at age 86 along with official greeter pup Bella. Over the 20+ year time she expressed such joy in meeting and conversations with store customers, many becoming lasting friends and acquaintances.
She enjoyed travel and loved visiting with family and friends. She cherished family outings and shared meals and always ensured that family was together for holidays, milestones and special celebrations.
Mary Alice is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Harville; parents and sister, Ginger Moore. She is survived by daughter, Kelly Harville; son, Keith Harville (Kim); grandson, Christopher Daudet (Michelle); and great grandchildren, Emily, Jaxon and Elaura Alice.
Mary Alice leaves behind a legacy of faith and love, highlighting her strong convictions and the positive impact she had on family, friends and community through her Christian values.
