Mary Lou Smith Testerman, age 88, passed away Friday, July 3, 2020 at her home in Morristown. She was preceded in death by her husband, of 57 years, Mervin Dale Testeman; son, Thomas Testerman; and parents, Hobart and Bessie Brown Smith.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Morristown and was active in the United Methodist Women’s group. She graduated from Hiwassee College and East Tennessee State University. She retired from the Hamblen County Board of Education. She taught at Sherwood Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Morristown High School, and other elementary schools throughout her tenure. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the ADK sorority.
She is survived by her children, Trecia (Michael) Walters, Hobert Dale Testerman, Mary Louise (Mark) Grady, and Freda Ann (Paul) Hyde; grandchildren, Timothy Walters, Rick and David Testerman, Major William "Bill" (Tausha) Grady, Elizabeth (Justin) Arnette and Margaret Shelby (Alex) Alvarado, Hannah (Nick) Evans and Madelyn Hyde; great grandchildren, Bailey and Kayleigh Evans, Louella and Cora Grady; and Colton Arnette; daughter-in-law Mae Testerman; special family, Robert and Tonya Thornton; their children, Ashton, Rylan, and Meaghan Thornton; very special friends Victor and Connie Trobaugh, Rick Hartman and Laura Higgins; as well as several other friends and extended family.
The family would like to thank Interim Healthcare of East Tennessee for all of the care and support.
The body will lie in state from 12PM to 5PM, Monday, July 6, 2020 and from 9AM to 5PM, Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at Allen Funeral Home. Due to COVID-19, a private funeral service will be held at Allen Funeral Home, with Rev. Walter Weikel and Victor Trobaugh officiating. Interment will be in VA Mountain Home National Cemetery.
