Michael Davis Obituary

Michael Clay Davis, 72, passed peacefully on October 4th, 2020 surrounded by family at his home after battling multiple illnesses stemming from Agent Orange exposure while serving his country in the Vietnam War. 

 

After 20 years of service in the United States Marine Corps, Michael retired at the rank of First Sergeant. He served two tours in the Vietnam War and was a Purple Heart recipient. 

 

Following his military service, Michael worked for the United States Postal Service and retired after 21 years.

 

He was born December 15, 1947 in Kingsport, TN to the late Emory and Mary Davis. Michael is survived by his wife Linda Cope Davis of 49 years, children: Buffie (Thomas) Simerly, Josh (Lauren) Davis, grandchildren: Isaiah (Becca) and Sophia Simerly, and great grandchild Clarice Simerly. In addition to his family he is also survived by siblings Steve (Gayle) Davis, Marlene (Dennis) Alvis, and Gail (Gary) Hudgens, several cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as best friends Sonny Carter and Gary Hurley.   

 

Michael was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Morristown as well as a teacher in the Wallen / Purkey class. 

 

Friends may drop by to express their condolences any time between 9:00am –12:00pm Thursday, October 8, 2020 in the East Chapel of Allen Funeral Home.  Military honors and graveside services will follow at 1:00pm in Hamblen Memory Gardens with Dr. Dean Haun officiating.  

 

In lieu of flowers, the family would like for donations to be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation (garysinisefoundation.org) in an effort to support our military heroes.
