Mitchell Jay Smith, 36, of Morristown, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026. Mitchell was an accomplished carpenter who had a passion for building. He was also a talented musician who could play any instrument he picked up. He was especially gifted in playing the guitar and the drums from a very young age. Above all other accomplishments, Mitchell was most proud of being a father. He loved his sons more than life. His whole heart was being a father to Leland and Soren.
He is preceded in death by his great grandparents, Charles and Gladys Coburn; great grandmother, Dora May Rash; grandparents, Fredrick and Carla Smith; grandmother, Linda Sue Rash; uncle, Ashley Smith; and brother, Samuel Combs.
Mitchell is survived by his mother, Amber Jill Lawson (Petie Wright); father, Anthony Jay Rash; children, Leland Jay and Soren Jay Smith; sister, Destinee (Rob) Jarnagin; brother, Jessy Lawson; aunt, Debbie (Burl) Satterfield; aunt, Marcia (Roger) Scott; Lifelong best friend, Brad Minton.
Mitchell was a kind soul and had a contagious smile and laugh that would brighten the room. He was king, gentle, thoughtful, and considerate. Above all, he was genuine.
There will be a memorial held from 5 – 7 PM, on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Still Waters Ministry: 160 Rocky Springs Road, Bean Station, TN 37708.
