Patricia “Patsy” Hardin Cartwright, 85 years old, of Morristown, passed away peacefully, on Friday, February 28th, 2020. She is remembered for her gracious, dignified, manner, warm sense of humor, and devotion to family.
Mrs. Cartwright grew up in the Mississippi River town of Canton, Missouri, where she graduated from Culver Stockton College with a degree in education and business administration. While teaching elementary school, in River Grove, Illinois, she was engaged to Jack, her devoted husband of 62 years, whom she had met in college.
As a longtime resident of Morristown, Mrs. Cartwright was an active member of her community. She served as a deaconess and elder at First Presbyterian Church and volunteered with CEASE and Soma Sala. After her children were raised, she worked part time at Morris Wood Tool Co., Inc.
Mrs. Cartwright is preceded in death by her parents, Bigger “B.J.” James Hardin and Virginia Hardin, of Canton, Missouri and her daughter, Virginia “Ginny” Cartwright Goan, of Morristown. In addition to her husband, John “Jack” Wood Cartwright, she is survived by daughter, Cynthia Cartwright Austin, and her husband, Stephen Neil Austin, of Signal Mountain; son-in-law, Richard “Rick” Lee Goan, of Morristown; grandchildren, Miller Beth Goan, of Murfreesboro, and Jackson Lee Goan, of Morristown; brother, James Edward Hardin, and his wife, Marcia Kirchner Hardin, of Canton, Missouri; brother, Robert Hardin, and his life partner, Janet Stoerger, of Chicago, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
In memory of Mrs. Cartwright, a celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, March 14th, from 1:00-2:00 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church, in Morristown. A private burial will be held at Bethesda Cemetery, at a later date.
