Ralph (Buck) H. Long went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
To know Buck was to love him. He was a loving Husband, Father, and Papaw. He was saved at an early age at Buffalo Baptist Church. He was a faithful member of Calvue Missionary Baptist Church for 57 years, serving as an active Deacon for 37 years. Buck will be remembered most for his gift of helping others. He served in the Morristown Rescue Squad for 28 years, where he held the Chaplain office for many of those years. Serving in the Rescue Squad brought him much joy. He worked at Enka until its closing, where he went on to be a bus driver for Hamblen County Schools for 22 years while also working as a mechanic at Sonny’s Auto Repair Shop. He loved coon hunting, fishing, and dirt track races. Buck lived life to the fullest, loved his family and friends with his whole heart, and he will be missed by many.
He is preceeded in death by his wife, Betty Sue, of 27 years; parents, Neal and Edna May Long; brothers, Jay, Ben, and Infant Ronnie Long; sisters, Betty Lane, Velma Parker, Dorothy Ledford, Rena Jinks, and Mary Nell Rines.
He is survived by his daughter Janice (Marty) Baxley; grandchildren, Dillon (Brooke) Baxley, and Beth (Jordan) Hayes; great grandchildren, Waylon Neely, Carson and Addie Baxley, and Jaycee and Ren Hayes; brothers, Jim (Donna) Long, and Joe (Trish) long; sister, Evelyn Smith; brother-in-law, Willis Parker; several nieces and nephews; and special companion, June Thompson.
