Richard L. Simerly, 88, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 23, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. He was a long-time faithful member of First Baptist Church of Bulls Gap. Richard served in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed golfing, was a Vols fan for life, a history buff, an avid reader, and a fan of the Bulls Gap Bulldogs. He especially loved spending time with his son and grandson. One of his greatest joys was watching his son and grandson succeed in sports. Whether it was on a basketball court or baseball field, he was always their #1 fan. He was loved so much by his family and will be greatly missed.
Richard is preceded in death his mother, Belle Nelms; sister, Phyllis (Carl) Sellers; and brother, Bobby Simerly.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Agnes Simerly; son, “Mallon” (Pam) Simerly; grandson, Hayden (Hailey Eckert) Simerly; great grandson, Bohdi Simerly; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff of Lake Bridge Nursing Home in Johnson City, Amedisys Hospice, and church members/friends, “Deanie” Evans and Bud Metz, for all their dedication and outstanding care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Richard Simerly.
