Robert Harmon Obituary

 

 

Lt Col (Retired) Robert Phillip (Bob) Harmon, age 96 years, joined his Holy Father Jesus on November 16, 2020 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. He was a resident of Morristown, Tn.

He attended Morristown High School where he was a member of the band.  He later received a Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering from the University of Tennessee.

Exactly one year after Pearl Harbor, Bob was sworn into the US Army Air Corps (Air Force) and finished his 36thmission over Germany as a Navigator on a B-17 Bomber on February 1, 1945. He was recalled into the Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Japan.  He remained in the US Air Force reserves until his retirement with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.  After bravely serving his country, he went to work in the Industrial Engineering department at American Enka. He later transferred to Clemson, SC, where he worked as a Central Service Manager at BASF. He retired in 1986 with 38 years of service.  Bob and Pat returned to live in Morristown in 2013.

Bob was a member, Deacon, and Chairman of Deacons at Morristown First Baptist Church, a member and Deacon at Clemson First Baptist Church where he was active in the Monday Morning Prayer group, and finished his life as a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Morristown. He was active in the Lion’s Club and the Jaycees.  In his spare time he worked building and repairing houses with Habitat for Humanity. He was an avid golfer, playing multiple times a week after retirement and he was most proud of the fact that he donated eight gallons of blood during his life until he was no longer able. He lived his faith every day through his actions. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. 

He was preceded in death by his Father and Mother, Estle Talmadge Harmon and Mabel Goodson Grigsby Harmon; sister, Ann Harmon Stephens and brother-in-law Hal Stephens. He leaves behind his love and wife of 71 years, Patricia Siler Harmon of Morristown; daughter, Sue Ellen Harmon Lee (Mike) and son Robert Siler Harmon (Tracy); grandson, John Siler Harmon (Callie) of League City, Tx, granddaughters, Rebeka Rice (John) of Knoxville and Elizabeth Goodman of Rogersville; great grandchildren, Ryleigh Goodman, Mollie Harmon, Samantha Rice, Jack Rice, Siler Harmon, Henry Rice, Charlee and Easton Arnott.

A celebration of Life Service will be held 2pm, Friday, June 4, 2021 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Cutshaw officiating.  Commital Services and Military Honors will follow the service at 4pm in Emma Jarnagin Cemetery.
