Tony Hopkins, 72, of Russellville, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 21, 2021, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was a long-time member of Russellville Baptist Church. Tony was owner and operator of Discount Auto Parts in Sneedville and Russellville Auto Parts for several years. He also worked at University Loft. He enjoyed old cars, car shows, flea markets and traveling. He loved people and life.
He is preceded in death by his wife Peggy Atkins Hopkins; parents, Don and Elsie Hopkins; mother and father-in-law, Ruby and Doyle “Buddy” Skelton; brothers, Larry Hopkins, and Arlen Hopkins; best friend Harry Frizzell.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marie Hopkins; sister, Deanna Hopkins (Lonnie) Purkey; brother and sister-in-law, Donna (Sam) Russell, mother-in-law, Dorothy “Dot” Atkins; special young man and friend, Michael Baldares in Belize as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to express special thanks to special friend and nurse Peggy Owens, as well as Peggy Ray and Interim Healthcare. Special thanks to all friends, neighbors and church family that prayed and showed kindness during Tony’s illness.
Susie was a special rescue dog which gave Tony much happiness and companionship during his illness. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Grainger County Humane Society; P O Box 229; Rutledge, TN. 37861.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 Saturday, July 24, 2021, in the East Chapel of Allen Funeral Home prior to the service at 7:00 with Reverends Danny Lamb and Ronald Bunch officiating. Graveside services are planned for 2:00 pm Sunday, July 25, 2021, in Hamblen Memory Gardens.
