William H. "Bill" Welch

William H. Welch, 92, of Morristown, passed away at his home Wednesday, August 31, 2022.  Born in Jellico, Tennessee, he later served in the US Navy.  A long-time educator, he was a math teacher at the Morristown Junior High School and was later a principal at Roberts Elementary School.  Bill was the first principal at Meadowview Middle School where he retired from education in 1991.  In retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He was also a long-time member of First Baptist Church and the Wallen-Purkey Sunday School class.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Joyce Chitwood Welch and parents, John and Mary Welch.

He is survived by his daughters, Melissa (Bill) Charles of Knoxville, TN and Cecilia Welch of Atlanta, GA; son, Keith (Anna) Welch of Port Townsend, WA; grandsons, Seth (Joy) Charles of Knoxville, TN. Andrew (Avery) Charles of Encinitas, CA and Marcus (Megan) Harris of Portland, OR; great-granddaughters, Temple and Josephine Harris, Chelsea Charles, and Abrey Thomas; great-grandsons, Dawson Charles and Braden Thomas; and brother, Travis (Sherry) Welch of Lafollette, TN.

A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at First Baptist Church, 11:30 AM, with Dr. Dean Haun officiating.  The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM prior to the celebration.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wallen-Purkey Sunday School class at First Baptist Church, P O Box 1899, Morristown, TN 37816.
